Policies and Monitoring

Why do we encourage policies on healthy eating (including breastfeeding), physical activity and screentime in ECEC’s?
Munch & Move encourages early childhood services to implement written policies, procedures or guidelines for breastfeeding (if your service has children aged <12 months), nutrition, physical activity and screen time.Inclusion of these policies, procedures or guidelines (referred to from here as ‘policies’) at your service aligns with the ACECQA National Quality Standard 2 (Element 2.1.3 – Healthy lifestyle).
Policies also benefit ECEC services by:
- Provide your service with a framework to promote and ensure best practice
- Communicate the values and expectations of your services to families and staff
- Ensure consistent communication with families and staff about the procedures that are undertaken in your service
- Provide practical information on how your service promotes child health
Why do we encourage service report and monitor how they implement healthy eating (including breastfeeding), physical activity and screentime in ECEC’s?
Early childhood education and care services report on Munch & Move healthy eating and physical activity in their self-assessment to ensure they are fostering a positive environment that promotes the physical and developmental well-being of children. By documenting these practices, they can demonstrate their commitment to supporting healthy lifestyle habits, track progress, and identify areas for improvement in meeting children's health and wellbeing goals. This also helps align their practices with those outlined in the National Quality Framework.
